Remember that new GRE begins August 2011. The main difference is that certain concepts
are emphasized more tan others.
The
GRE is a requirement for most graduate programs in the USA and some
graduate programs in Europe and Canada. For areas of study like Fine
Arts, Engineering, Education, Social Sciences, Economics and Public
Affairs and Basic Sciences a GRE test is most likely to be required.
Our
courses include an overview of the tests and their format, three
computer simulations of the full test, a review of the typical pitfalls
–and ways to avoid them, essay workshops, guided practice and
enthusiastic teachers who motivate you to get the highest score you can.
Taking
the test for the first time can be difficult, even confusing because of
the kind of questions you will be asked. Some people waste a lot of
time trying to understand what they are being asked for. At THE GRAD SCHOOL
we have the software necessary to take mock tests, and all of our
teachers are familiar with the kind of questions you will be asked.
After taking the course you will see that you will be more comfortable
with the structure of the exam itself, which will help you gain
confidence, precious time and a good score.
QUANTITATIVE COMPONENT
Quantitative section will test your ability to
reason mathematically, understand basic math terminology and to recall basic
formulas and principles. New GRE has greater emphasis on data
interpretation and real life problems scenarios.
It demands from the candidate knowledge from a
wide variety of areas like arithmetic, algebra, geometry, probability and number properties. The complexity of the
questions is not the main problem: the real problem is the amount of
concepts that you have to be comfortable with. Taking the course will
review all the subjects evaluated by the GRE, plus the teacher will
provide you with important hints that will make a difference when you
take the test. We will review together theory and the exercises that
usually appear in the actual exams.
The GRE is known for the little time given to the test takers. You have
to be able to reason in seconds, to quickly distinguish between the
right and the wrong answers. The teachers at THE GRAD SCHOOL
are aware of that, so we work in order to help you to gain speed and to
develop the intuition you need. We will work on a very large amount of
exercises in order to help you know the kind of questions you will be
asked, the things you first have to consider while answering in order
to help you avoid wasting precious time.
We will work on what the short procedures are and what not to do while taking the test.
VERBAL COMPONENT
The
verbal section is designed to measure the skills required to read and understand
sentences and passages in standard written English. This section consists of sections on
Analogies and Antonyms, Sentence Completion and Reading Comprehension.
In many ways, this is just an elaborate vocabulary test.
New GRE is more focus on higher-level cognitive
thinking which translates to critical reading.
At THE GRAD SCHOOL,
we work with you on building the specific vocabulary you need to
succeed on the GRE. We explore various methods of expanding your
vocabulary, such as studying the roots of words, prefixes and suffixes,
and mnemonic devices, as well as flashcards and vocabulary
drills. THE GRAD SCHOOL teachers also help you to see inside the questions and increase the accuracy of your decision-making.
THE GRAD SCHOOL
offers students who wish to excel the opportunity to work with teachers
who know the test and can help you understand why you are getting
something wrong and how to get it right.
THE GRAD SCHOOL Verbal preparation curriculum includes:
an overview of the entire test and the structure of the questions, an
introductory and guided practice class for each test section, an essay
writing workshop for each of the two essay questions, review classes
and test simulation.
THE ESSAYS
On the
analytical writing section you are not tested on any knowledge; is the
opportunity to demonstrate your ability to reason and write clearly and
coherently.
At THE GRAD SCHOOL
we teach you the keys to maximize the score on the essays. Our
curriculum features writing classes specifically geared for the GMAT
and GRE Essays. Since the Argument and Issue Essays are two quite
different tasks, we teach you the winning approach to each.
Issue
task will ask you to organize your thoughts and represents your point of view
about on the issue.
Argument
task will ask you to think crearly about a topic and represents a logical
analysis about it, to criticize it and suggest what may make it stronger.
Good clear writing is required on both essays, the only difference between them is the approach you take.
At THE GRAD SCHOOL
we teach you how to boost your essay score by helping you both
understand the most effective approach to the questions and improve the
clarity of your writing. THE GRAD SCHOOL instructors work with you on improving the structure, organization, word choice and diction of your writing.
